Since June 2000 all legal and registered taxi cabs must be yellow and operate by meter. The rates per km are regulated: The average rate is between 0.49 and 0.59 BGN per kilometer (July 2006). Always check the table of fares. Day and night time tarifs are common. Daytime is 6 am until 10 pm. Starting and call-out charges must by law be displayed on the windows. Dispatchers and drivers usually speak only Bulgarian. That means you may need someone to help you order one by phone and you need to learn how to name your destination. When you order a taxi by phone they will give you a 3 digit number of the taxi which will come to pick you up. An additional fee is paid when ordering by phone.
The following companies are known to charge reasonable fees:
OK Supertrans 9732121
Yes 91119 & 91009
Inex 91919
Taxi S Express 91280
